Advice and Support for Communities
For emerging groups, experienced community businesses, and everything in between.
We help with
Exploring land or asset opportunities — understanding options, responsibilities, and next steps
Planning or strengthening a project — shaping clear, workable plans for food, spaces, hubs, housing, energy or enterprise
Setting up or improving governance — choosing structures, roles, decision-making processes
Understanding costs — capital needs, operating costs, project sequencing
Finding funding — grants, loans, community shares, blended approaches
Building long-term resilience — strategic planning, risk awareness, practical sustainability
🌱 Shaping a Plan That Feels Like Yours
Every community enterprise needs something steady to hold onto - a shared business plan that helps everyone understand what you’re trying to do, how you’ll do it, and what it will take to get there. Not a long technical document, but a clear, practical roadmap that is yours.
We work with you to shape a plan that:
sets out what you want to achieve and why it matters locally
describes how your land, building, or space will be cared for over time
clarifies who’s involved and what roles they’ll play
identifies ways the project can sustain itself
maps out the steps (and timing) that make everything doable
We do this together, at a pace that suits your group. By the end, you’ll have something you can use with funders, partners, and your wider community - a plan that gives everyone confidence and direction.
💷 Understanding the Money, Without the Overwhelm
Money can feel complicated, but it doesn’t need to be. We help your group build a simple, honest picture of what your project will cost and what it needs to thrive.
Together, we explore:
what you’ll need to get started (including land or building costs if relevant)
what it will take to improve, adapt, or care for the site
what income you might bring in over time
the day-to-day running costs you’ll need to cover
If helpful, we also map out how costs and income could look over the next few years, and what that means for your decision-making.
By the end, you’ll have an easy-to-follow financial picture — clear enough for funders, and understandable for everyone in your group.
🤝 Setting Up Your Group Well
Good projects rest on good foundations. We help your group choose the structures and ways of working that make sense for your purpose, your people, and the scale of what you want to do.
We support you to:
explore which legal structure fits best (CIC, CBS, co-op, charity, or informal to begin with)
shape clear, fair roles - without creating unnecessary complexity
choose approaches to decision-making that feel healthy and inclusive
put simple systems in place so things stay transparent and manageable
match your governance approach to the kind of project you’re running now - and the one you hope to grow into
By the end, you’ll have a setup that feels right for your group and gives funders and partners confidence in how you work.
🌻Finding the Funding to Bring Your Project to Life
Community led projects need a mix of funding to get off the ground - whether to acquire land, improve a building, hire professional support, or set up the project for the long term. We help you understand where that funding might come from and how to approach it with confidence.
Drawing on experience in grants, community investment, social lending, and the blended finance world, we help you:
identify realistic sources of funding for your project
understand the differences between grants, loans, community shares, and blended routes
shape compelling, honest funding cases that reflect your community’s voice
prepare for conversations with funders, lenders, or investors
build a simple funding strategy that fits your timeline and capacity
This isn’t about chasing every opportunity - it’s about finding the right mix for your group and your place.
By the end, you’ll feel clearer about your funding options, more confident in your story, and better prepared to secure the capital your project needs.
